ERIN MAXWELL noticing blog

Today, some of my students were progress monitored for reading.  Many of the students in my class read at a level far below third grade.  I have noticed that these students are quite aware of their lack of proficiency in reading.  I have mentioned previously that a student refers to his books as “baby” books.  One of the students, who was progress monitored today, has been working with myself, my MT, and a LLI (leveled literacy intervention) teacher on improving his reading.  Today, this student progressed two reading levels. He was so excited to share his success with his students. I recognized just how significant positive feedback is for students.  Recognizing an individual’s hard work and helping them reach their goals is beyond rewarding.  This experience has encouraged me to continue to push the students who are struggling with their reading. I believe that seeing their goals realized will be great incentive to continue pushing themselves in their reading.
